COMPOSED
Approaching a building as a work of art, this studio focused on the sensorial experience art and architecture can evoke through a series of highly composed renderings. Acknowledging that we all have innate materials, textures, and shapes which captivate us, the first exercise catalogued those qualities through a series of photographs captured around downtown Los Angeles.
In studying the photographs, it became evident that I was drawn to both raw and refined materials and to light and dark environments. To explore these qualities further, I juxtaposed and combined them in art pieces.

When challenged to apply these qualities to composing a building, they were adopted in formal gestures such as carving away from the gallery spaces to create circulation paths and juxtaposing industrial and finished materials into a harmonious palette.
